A fourth restaurant, the former Gaslamp Strip Club steakhouse, has been replaced with a new tenant, Happy Does, a retro watering hole created by Good Time Design, a hospitality company based in both San Diego and Nashville. Much of the block is occupied by mostly vacant dining venues, including Dick’s Last Resort, which has been shuttered since 2016 the Thai restaurant Rama, and Jolt’n Joes. The hotel site, less than two blocks away from the bayfront convention center, occupies a little more than half of the block bounded by Fourth and Fifth avenues and J and K streets. “We are early in the process and are excited about moving forward and delivering a super high quality mixed-use and hospitality project to our hometown.” “We are very proud of what we created at Pendry San Diego and plan to continue the same high-quality hospitality project on this site, which is kitty-corner from the Pendry site,” Green told members of San Diego’s Downtown Community Planning Council during a presentation this week.
